Marvel has announced 5 new Marvel Knights one-shots set in the year 2099!! That is the year all of us here are familiar with. Spider-Man 2099, Miguel O'Hara debuted in September of 1992 in SPIDER-MAN 2099 #1 with the number of copies sold hitting nearly one million copies. "Miggy's" book remained a top seller for the following 45 issues, along with the wildly successful X-Men 2099 and the critically acclaimed Doom 2099. The "S-Man" remained the most popular character of the Marvel 2099 line throughout its lifetime. Spider-Man 2099 rarely spoke when he did battle with his foes, unlike the present day Spider-Man, who is known for his sharp wit and clever banter. It was Miguel O'Hara who presented himself to his loved ones as infinitely intelligent, wickedly humorous, passionate and loving. Without Miguel underneath the mask, Spider-Man 2099 would just be another masked hero who we'd have little care for. It wasn't about the action, it was about the human story; it was about Miguel's story as he led a dual life as the anti-corp hero, Spider-Man, in the year 2099.

Join us as we declare, there is no 2099 without Spider-Man 2099!!!

We've put out a call for the fans to write letters to Marvel and request a single panel appearance of Spider-Man 2099 in one of the Marvel Knights 2099 one-shots! Based on Senior Editor Tom Brevoort's statement, that will "kinda" happen. Now, we must continue writing letters in response to Mr. Brevoort's ambiguous statement! We must request that the "kinda" appearance is not a fakeout or something that invalidates Miguel's existence!

We're going to be writing letters and spreading the word about the Marvel Knights 2099 books right up until their release in September. We want to flood the Marvel Bullpen with REAL letters from REAL fans about Spider-Man 2099's right to exist in the MK2099 line.

So who do you write to and where do you send it? There are three people who need to hear from you:

Tom Brevoort, Senior Editor, Marvel Comics
Robert Kirkman, writer, MARVEL KNIGHTS 2099 one-shots
Joe Quesada, Editor in Chief, Marvel Comics

Marvel Enterprises, Inc.
10 East 40th St.
New York, NY 10016
Phone (212) 576-4000

So what do you put in the letter?

  • Express your excitement to see Marvel return to the year 2099 again.

  • Explain how much you enjoyed the adventures of Spider-Man 2099, Miguel O'Hara.
  • Describe your excitement about Miguel's possible appearance and request that the character not be invalidated and forgotten!
  •
  • Don't differentiate between Miguel O'Hara and the S-Man. They are the same character, and he's the one we want to return to comics!
  • Don't dare call him "Spidey," that's Peter Parker! Miguel met Peter in "Spider-Man 2099 Meets Spider-Man," written by Peter David. Call him Miguel, Mig, Miggy, Spider-Man 2099 or S-Man.
  • Remember, the 2099 line wasn't cancelled due to low popularity or low sales. The line, as well as 1/3 of Marvel's staff and 1/4 of it's titles, fell victim to cost-cutting measures imposed in the mid 1990s. The line was immensely popular! SPIDER-MAN 2099 remained in the top 75 throughout it's entire 46-issue run.
  • Look at the success of SPIDER-MAN 2 in movie theaters. There's sure to be Spidey-fever, and why not give fans and casual readers alike a look at one of the most popular "other" Spider-Man's out there?!
  • Refer them to the 2099 board, and include the URL. Mention that is a gathering place for fans of 2099, and has all sorts of 2099 resources. The address is www.comicboards.com/2099ug.
  • Thank them for their time, and express hope that they will consider your request.
  • Sign with your real name, not a screen name.
  • Stop by the message board or e-mail us and let us know you to whom you wrote and when!
