Subj: Power Man and Iron Fist 98: PBP... [1983 Spoilers]
Posted: Sat Jan 10, 2009 at 11:17:45 am EST (Viewed 665 times)

Anyone care to reminisce about a past appearance of Luke Cage and Danny Rand?

Just saw a surprising total of 8pages on eBay for PM&IF98:

Dug up my old copy for the trip down memory lane. Was going to try a hand at updating its Wiki page but still trying to figure the way about that. So, how 'bout a quick PBP...

PM&IF was on my monthly pull list from #51-100. #98 has lots of good art and story all in a self-contained(more or less) team up adventure. Fine colors and lettering too. AND NO PREVIOUSLY PAGE NEEDED! Lots of memorable characters and Heroes For Hire nostalgia. 22 pages of value for only 60¢.

00 Starts off with a fun cover.

1 Cage in classic garb vs 2 of his Rogue's Gallery: Commanche and Shades - this is gonna be good.

2 Expected 'NEW&IMPROVED' spiel from any returning villain makes for a NEW Round-1 battle akin to Cage vs Cyclops and Hawkeye

Cage slips up but allows for more satisfying payback this way.

4 Return to Rand-Meachum Inc. setting. Fine recap of Danny's sitch AND THOUGHT BALLOONS! Hmmm, where IS Joy Meachum these days?

5 Uncle Ward Meachum gets good bad guy introspection with added mental conversation with his feared mystery Masterlord. Effectively eerie back then. Hmmm, where IS Khan these days?

6 nb: R-M Inc manufactured weapons and surprisingly just handed Danny a sample unregistered supergun to take home.
nb: Progress of the FERA subplot.
nb: The Ward Family was messed up.

Iron Fist seen practicing is fun detail. Good old Jeryn, pre-retirement, mediating 'tween Cage and Fist.

8 Enter Daughters of the Dragon and there great ongoing contribution to the series.

Danny's connection with fan faves Knight and Wing always helped make them interesting characters.

10 Enter D.W. and his welcome involvement since, the pre-#51, Hero For Hire days. Hmmm, where IS DW these days?

Enter Harmony Young. Luke's connection with this underrated/underused character. Hmmm, where IS Harmony these days? Would like to see her in a Hollywood sequence with Wonder Man. (Not sure if she's dead.)

12 More yakkity yak.

13 The excitement finally starts with Ward and Commanche and Shades rendezvous. Always liked the named cameos of street contacts too. Nowadays readers often have to guess who's depicted in a panel. Good story seeds there. nb: Pierre, Squeaky Jack, Sammy the Tapper.

The cover starts to come alive. Cage aint no pushover afterall!

In fact Cage demonstrates superhuman weight class with Shades suitably impressed. nb: Shades tech is more impressive than Commanches.

16 Always enjoyed examples of IF's mastery of the martial arts in the series. This is a fine example! Plus the summoning his Iron Fist was classic cool.

Respect for Iron Fist as a skilled superhero by the villains and the writer. He looks waaay better than he has in NA since joining.

18 More of the GOOD stuff. Nice movement. Iron Fist action more easy to relate to than saaay weilding a variety of magic light of Green LanternImmortal Weapon chi.

19 Now Cage shines some more.

20 Nice balance and teamwork with the protagonists that was usually indicative of volume 1.

21 PM&IF98
Okay, this part was a little hard to swallow. Not the part where NYs Finest actually appear in a preSHRA title to catch a supervillain but that everyone just left the Cyclopslike-visor on Shades!

22 Though, makes for a decent cliffhanger... err bridgehanger. Long time readers knew they'd survive this one sooo easy though.
