Comments: When Chimera refers to "Vulture Boys", she is most likely referring to his street gang, the Freakers, who first appeared in Spider-Man 2099#7. If not them then she could mean the Wild Boys, the other gang he leads, who first appeared in X-Men 2099#30. The street gang the New York Dolls were probably inspired the punk band by the same name. Sue’s speculation about the authenticity of 2099’s Captain America is correct. John Herod created this Captain America.
Synopsis: Citizens are watching
a Stark Fujiwaka
broadcast that shows the Fantastic Four fighting some guards. The
broadcast states that the Fantastic Four are delusional experimental
subjects that think they are actual historical figures. The broadcaster
says that the images that they are showing prove otherwise, as the
footage cuts to a picture of Mister Fantastic entangling a guard with
his body and Thing smashing the head of another guard into a wall. The
broadcaster says that the "F4" escape is regrettable and that an
attempt to resolve the matter within Alchemax’s limited access policy
was not as successful as it first appeared. He says that at least some
of the subjects remain at large and that they will most likely be
operating under their "aliases"… Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Sue
Richards/Invisible Woman, Ben Grimm/Thing and Johnny Storm/Human Torch.
One of the civilians who is watching the broadcast pays special interest to the program and wonders if it is the original Fantastic Four. The broadcaster continues saying that while there is a reward for their capture, they are highly dangerous subjects and that they advise reporting any sightings to Stark/Fujiwaka or their local SHIELD agent. The broadcaster ends off stating that the footage they’ve been viewing is based entirely on the subjects PREDICTED behavior.
The civilian, whose name is Miguel O’Hara aka Spider-Man, begins to walk to his car and starts thinking to himself. As Spider-Man he’d love to help them because it’s a safe bet that Stark/Fujiwaka is "spin-doctoring" the events. But as Miguel O’Hara, the chief executive officer of Alchemax, all he sees are Stark/Fujiwaka’s problems spilling into his territory again. He can just imagine what Tyler Stone would say if he were still in charge…
A holographic image of Tyler Stone is yelling at Hikaru, the owner of Stark/Fujiwaka. He asks Hikaru what he is trying to, start a citywide panic? Hikaru’s assistant tells Tyler that Hikaru though the public should be warned and that Stark/Fujiwaka paid Alchemax prime rate for the use of their comm link. He then asks Tyler to relax; after all he is recovering from an assassination attempt. Tyler responds by asking how he can relax when they rubbed the stink of their fiasco all over Alchemax. He quotes the words from the broadcast, "Limited Access Policy"… his assets! He says that Stark/Fujiwaka is only in New York because of a twentieth century trade agreement and that could change very quickly.
Hikaru says that Tyler’s holo-image is only in his office as a courtesy and that Tyler current wields NO power at Alchemax. He says that he suspects that current struggle between Tyler and Miguel O’Hara might leave an opening for other interests to move in. Tyler says that Stark/Fujiwaka is very interested… isn’t it? Hikaru responds saying that their ancestral roots are in the city, so yes. Tyler says that it is too bad that he is not dead then, because that is the only way that Stark/Fujiwaka will get his town, and then his holo-image cuts off.
A holo-image of John Herod appears saying that he thought Stone would never leave. He then says now that it’s just the "grown-ups" he’d appreciate a realistic assessment of the fantastic farce. Hikaru responds saying that locating the Four will not be a problem. He says that since they represent a substantial investment of Stark/Fujiwaka, he has his very best retrieval agency. Herod cuts him off, saying that he doesn’t want them retrieved…he wants them dead. As dead as the past that they represent. Hikaru says that he sees and asks if that were to happen could Stark/Fujiwaka expect his support if disagreements arose with Alchemax. Herod says "And interfere with free market forces? Sorry, old sock!" He says that time is money and with only five years left until America is sucked dry, every second counts. He tells Hikaru to play to win because everyone else is and signs off. Hikaru responds to the now departed Herod, saying that there will be no winners in Herod’s game. Clutching his pendant he says "five years…five years to the last repunge…"
Chimera is talking in her sleep, saying that there it is the last chance… no refuge… and to stop following her. Human torch notices this and calls her name out. He tells her to wake up, since she is seriously dream-challenged right now. Still sleeping, Chimera responds saying, "No… leave me alone… how long… how many times… How many times do I have to kill you?!" as She turns around and points her gun at the Human Torch. Human Torch says "how about none?" as he melts her gun. He says that it is he, Johnny Storm… the guy who stopped her from being street pizza. Coming to her senses, Chimera says that she is sorry and asks where the others are. Obviously extending more concern for Reed than the others.
Johnny says that he doesn’t know. He says that he barely got them there after the Fantasti-Car blew up before the lights went out on him too. He says by the time he checked the ruins of the car, it was history, no one was left but some street toughs… Chimera says that it was Vulture’s boys probably or some wannabe bounty hunters that want to get the money that is placed on the F4’s heads. She says she wonders if the word is out that they are from the Negative Zone. Johnny asks why would that matter. She asks him if he forgot to save… she’s not talking about the Halo City nightclub. She says maybe he doesn’t know what she’s talking about, especially if he has been Zoned for the last century. She says "Oh, the possibilities…" as she grabs her coat and tells Johnny it’s time to rocket. She’s hungry and she needs a new gun now, too. She says food is easy to get, but getting a gun is difficult since Doom got elected to presidency. Shocked by what Chimera just said, he shouts "Doom?!"
In another part of New York, Mister Fantastic repeats those words as he sees a poster with Doom on it and the American flag waving behind him. Reed says that it can’t be and maybe this isn’t the future… not his future… at least. Thing says they don’t have a future if Reed doesn’t get the door opened. Something tells him that these ladies aren’t there to ask them to a debutante ball. One of the women that is firing upon them says that she told them she spotted that orange thing Stark/Fujiwaka is after. Another woman, whose name is Barbie, compliments her friend, Midge, by telling her that she has good eyes. The reward is going to buy them a killer-shopping spree. Another woman tells the rest to pour on the TLC and not to let these "Kens" forget their date with the New York Dolls!
Thing asks them if a diamond is still a girl’s best friend in 2099 as he throws a huge rock at them. He says that he is sorry, but that was the only rock that he got for them. Before the rock can hit them, the New York Dolls blast it to pieces. Thing feigns sorrow as he says that he picked that one out by himself. Grabbing another rock, he says that he guesses it’s not time to be picky as it’s clobber--- He stops in mid sentence as he sees the poster Reed was looking at only moments ago.
Suddenly, he is blasted in the stomach by one of the New York Dolls. Reed says "perfect" and tells Thing to roll with the blow as he has a plan. Thing collides with Reed, who uses his elasticity to catch Ben and spring him back at the Dolls. Thing bowls over most of the Dolls as the rest flee on foot. Thing asks if this is his future then. Him, the idol of millions reduced to being a bowling ball. Ten pin Ben Grimm. Just then, a voice rings out and says that they won’t be gone for long and for their own safety he beseeches that Reed and Thing come with him.
A man is on the phone asking Harry how much the reward is for and he is amazed by what he hears. He says that he doesn’t have all of them but he has the girl. The only trouble is she is still alive and that, by law, any good citizen has to hand her over to... Cutting off himself he says to Harry that is a very generous bonus and that he never was a very good citizen... he says that he’ll have to the body sent straight to Helcorp…River Styx over and… Before he can say out, Invisible Woman stirs and hits him with an invisible force blasts knocking him against a wall and his phone out of his hand.
Sue tells him that is her invisible force field and that she could easily crush him with it. Luckily she is a better citizen than he is. River Styx tells her that he is a Helcorp D-Man and that if anything happens to him, she will have a very bad day. She begins to tells him that she doesn’t think it could get any worse as she spots the poster of Doom. She says to herself, Doom? And then says of course it’s Doom, the first thing in this world that has made any sense. River Styx replies saying it’s the last thing too. He says that business is booming under the new president, but if you ask him Captain America is undermining the country’s very soul.
Releasing him from the force field, she tells him he can’t be talking about the REAL Captain America. River replies by saying "Living legend of the twen cen? Found cryogized in the Antarctic? It was on every com-link, angel…" She tells him that she was busy in the Negative Zone. River Styx replies saying the Zone? No wonder… He tells her that she better to stay close to him because she needs someone whom knows the terrain and that she is too easy to spot. Turning invisible, she tells him that that is the least of her worries. She creates a force field under her feet and flies off telling River that it has been a pleasure but she has to find her family now. And that while it was flattering, her name is not Angel… it’s Sue Richards. Responding to the departed Sue, River says that he’ll be seeing her… one way or another…
Reed, Ben and the mystery man that helped them are inside a church. Reed is saying that he can’t thank him enough and asks him his name. The priest tells him that he is Mosley Wilson… Pilgrim Mosley Wilson… and calls him Mr. Richards. He says that of course he knows who he is, after all, he is the keeper of the flame in the Church Of Thor. Thing responds saying that Thor has a church? Y’mean he beat out Elvis? Pilgrim says that the True Believers are not a fringe cult like the Elvingelicals, Cobainians or even the Spider Worshippers. Thing replies saying that he did not mean any disrespect and ask if a picture of a man holding a stick just moved. He asks Reed to tell him that he saw it too. Reed says that he did and that it must be some sort of a holographic painting as the picture morphs showing the Mighty Thor holding Mjolnir. Pilgrim says that the picture is their most basic tenet. He goes on to say that from the moment he heard of their return, he knew they were not impostors. He knew that they were another sign of Thor’s return!
Reed begins to say that he doesn’t know about that… when Pilgrim cuts him off. He asks Reed and Ben to stay at the Church as apostles… possibly even prophets of Thor! Thing tells him to get out of town, that he was a drinking buddy with Thor but… Reed cuts him off saying that he shouldn’t before he too is cut off… A glowing green sphere appears over their heads as Reed inquires what it is. Thing says that something tells him it’s not a holy roller thundercloud as four figures come through the portal. Reed tells him that he put it mildly and tells Pilgrim to watch out.
A man with a staff who opened the portal levitates while saying that that there are two of the four. Exactly where he knew they would be. He calls to one of his partners, calling him Runaway and begins to tell him to attack from the… before he is cut off by Runaway. Runaway says that he is way ahead of him and calls the staff man Blackstone. A Caucasian woman begins to fire upon Mister Fantastic and Pilgrim while a black woman kicks Thing in the head and tells them to hit them hard and make sure that they never forget… Total Recall!
Hitting Thing again in the head, the woman asks if he is the rockpile known as the Thing. She says that they call her Squeeze! Rubbing his jaw, Thing tells her that she has a nice touch but if she wants to slam dance there is still a few steps she has to learn. He grabs onto Squeeze’s arm as it squishes between his fist. Wrapping her arm around Thing’s arm Squeeze lifts him into the air as Thing tells her to let go. Squeeze tells him that she is not interested in ancient history… slam dancing… waltzes… she has her own moves. She tells Blackstone that it is time for a squeeze play as she tosses Thing into the air. Blackstone tells her that two teleportals are coming right up. Thing enters one of Blackstone’s teleportals as another one appears beneath that one and expels him right at Squeeze again. Thing comments on how embarrassing this is, he’ll be kicked out of his own fan club if they ever hear of this. Grabbing a church pew, Squeeze tells Thing that he looks tired and tells him to have a seat as she shatters the pew on Thing’s head.
Reed grabs a gun from the other woman saying that he’ll take that if she doesn’t mind as it appears she has plenty others. Pulling out another gun, the woman points it at Reed. Reed says that she doesn’t understand. His goal is to NOT get shot as he reaches for the other gun. Suddenly something comes between him and the gun and tells "Hipshot" to leave Mister Fantastic to him for a nanosecond. Seconds later, Mister Fantastic's arms are wrapped around a post as Runaway comes to a stop. Runaway says now he’ll keep his hands to himself, courtesy of the speedy stylings of Runaway. Hipshot takes aim at the back of Reed’s head and fires. Mister Fantastic twists free of the knots Runaway tied his arms into and avoids the blast. He tells Runaway that he needs to work on his knots and that he is a hardly a boy scout and they aren’t much better as assassins. Punching Reed in the face at super speed, Runaway asks who said they were assassins? Runaway says that Reed and Thing are just property. Stark/Fujiwaka owns them and wants them back. That is why they called the best repo men in the business.
Johnny and Chimera are sitting against a post on a street eating some food. Johnny asks Chimera if the stuff they are eating isn’t called soylent green. Chimera asks what that is as Johnny replies for her to nevermind, as it was a lame joke. He says that it isn’t really that bad and it kinda tastes like chicken, to which Chimera again replies "What’s that?" Johnny says that speaking of weird… from the street signs they should be on the big apple’s waterfront. So where’s all the water? Chimera tells him it is about a hundred blocks out and that is has been that way all of her life. Johnny says that he remembers when there were docks right where they are standing. Complete with boats and long shoremen and rats and dead fish and… Changing the subject he tells her that they should go and find the others before he sinks more into memory lane. Chimera tells him that she doesn’t have a weapon yet. Johnny tells her to keep it down as he told her before, he will protect her. Crossing her arms and looking smugly, she asks him will he really?
Suddenly a voice comes from above them and tells them that by support column AC-3 they are under arrest! Chimera then tells Johnny to show her how he will protect her. Johnny flames on as two SHIELD flyers fly overhead. Agent Vachhs, one of the agents of SHIELD radios in to SHIELD-Central telling them that their data was on-line. He says that the routine credit-trace on food purchases led them straight to the wanted perp. He says that she is still associating with at least one Stark/Fujiwaka fugitive and that apprehension is imminent. Flaring up, Johnny asks him "It is?" and that no one told him as he lets loose a bolt of fire at Vacchs, wrecking his sky-cycle. The other agent tells SHIELD-Central that Vacchs has been hit and that they need reinforcements. Now with his smoking sky-cycle on the ground, Vacchs tells Amiro not to let Human Torch get away, as he is fine. Suddenly, Chimera hits Vacchs in the back of the head with a piece of wood. She says that it took them long enough to get there and says that he knows what they say--- Girls just want to have guns!
Hipshot is firing many blasts at the Thing, knocking him into ruins of the church. While stretching Reed, Squeeze asks her how many pulsors in a row was that? Thirty? Forty? Squeeze says that it looks like rockpile has as much life left in him as taffy-man does. She says they deserve each other as she throws Reed at the Thing. Thing gets up and tells Reed to get Pilgrim and get out and that he will handle the Yancy Street Gang wannabes. Reed tells him that he can’t do that as they are in this together.
Runaway runs at them saying that it is not over yet, and that it is his turn. Blackstone says that Runaway certainly enjoys his work… in a rather rabid way. Squeeze says that Runaway likes to keep moving, but she needs a challenge. He said that there would be four! Blackstone responds by telling her that there are. He says that it appears SHIELD is closing in on the Human Torch and the Invisible Woman also… He says that it is unlikely, but SHIELD could cost them the half of their retrieval fee. He creates a portal as he tells Squeeze to excuse him for a moment and that he should return before Mister Fantastic and the Thing are beaten to death.
Above New York City, Human torch is dodging blasts being fired upon him by many SHIELD agents. One agent tells Johnny that he is beaten. He is outnumbered, outpowered and outclassed.. Johnny says that he is out of there then and jokes asking if that is Galactus behind them as her turns around a corner. The agent tells Johnny to "Get jagged" as that might have worked on first-level schoolers but dis-tracking agents of SHIELD isn’t quite as easy. Turning around the corner that Johnny went, the SHIELD agents realize that Johnny is gone. One of the agents says that Central’s gonna love this and tells the others to get on the grid and to scan the area with infra. He tells two agents, Arsala and Choi to go high and low and then asks Tomas who the shock Galactus is.
An invisible Human Torch is floating in the air behind them. Descending to the ground, Johnny says to Sue that it is great to see her again. But then, she always knew how to make an appearance. He thanks her for the quick fade-and-save and that he is lucky she found him. Sue tells him that he was being chased by a dozen people and leaving fire-trails across the sky. She says that she only hopes that finding Reed and Ben is half as easy. She says that if something happened to them--- Johnny reports the word "happened" as he remembers Chimera. He tells Sue that Chimera is out there… alone and helpless!
Hiding behind a rock, Chimera fires at a few SHIELD agents telling them if they want to send her back to the Zone, that half of them will go to Helcorp first! Flying down holding Sue, Johnny tells her to stop panicking as the cavalry has arrived. He says that with SHIELD, no "Agents Of…" have anything on Sue’s invisible force. Chimera is amazed that he’s alive. Johnny says that he knows…she was worried, right? Chimera says that she couldn’t stop thinking of all the horrible ways he might die, yes. She looks at Sue and says that she sees that Johnny has found his mother. Angry, Sue replies saying that she is his sister. She then asks Chimera why she was in the Negative Zone as she doubts it is a vacation spot, even in 2099.
Suddenly, Blackthorn arrives through a portal and grabs Sue by her arm. He tells her that the pleasure of her company is currently requested by Total Recall and says this way please as he pulls her into the portal. Johnny, holding Chimera, rushes and grabs on to Sue’s arm and tells says that he is not going to lose Sue again. Erupting at the other end of the portal he tells his "sis" that this is definitely not good. Looking up at the unconscious forms of Thing and Mister Fantastic, Sue fears the worse as she calls out their names. On the rocks above them Total Recall is standing, as Squeeze says that she has got that right "sis" and asks her to guess who is next.
