History: Leila Davis was the
wife of small-time criminal Anthony Davis aka The Ringer (see: Ringer
I). Blaming The Beetle for the death of
her husband, who was killed by the Scourge at the "Bar With No
Name" massacre, trying to prove himself after the humiliation
The Beetle had put him through (see: Beetle
I; Ringer I; Scourge I). Leila tried to
get her revenge at The Beetle by teaming up with The Beetle's
teammates in Sinister Syndicate and Kingpin (see: Kingpin
I; Sinister Syndicate). The plan failed
but the Sinister Syndicate fell apart as a team after this incident.
Leila later tried to get revenge at The Beetle again, but again
failed, she also learned that her late husband had been resurrected
as the cyborg Strikeback. Recently Leila joined the new Redeemers
team as the new Beetle, ironic taking the name of the guy she once
tried to kill (see: Redeemers II).
Leilas was killed in action, when she was crushed inside the Beetle
costume by the supervillain Graviton (see: Graviton)
List Of Appearances;
Deadly Foes of
Spider-Man #1 (Stands outside Sinister
Syndicate's secret headquaters, wondering why they won't let her in on
the plans, since she is the driver and will take as much a fall as
the rest of them. Almost knocked down by Speed Demon when he comes
running to the meeting. After the meeting the Sinister Syndicate
members comes outside, Boomerang introduces Leila to the rest of the
team, and she kisses him, and says to Beetle she won't let them down.
On their way to the bankm almost runs down an innocent man walking
over the street, but the man barely escapes without getting hit,
unknown to Leila and the Sinister Syndicate, the innocent man is
Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man. After the Sinister Syndicate robbed the
bank, and fought Spider-Man, escapes but without Boomerang, Beetle
commands Leila to drive without Boomernag, and to persuade her even
more threatens her with a gun. Later in Sinister Syndicate's secret
hideout, introduced to Beetle's lawyer Steve Partridge, Beetle tells
Leila that they need to free Boomerang with laws instead of breaking
him free, because the authorities expects them to break him free.
Leila says "a-all right, Mr. Jenkins, if you say so...!".
After the meeting with the lawyer, Speed Demon takes good care of
Leila. Later Leila insists on seeing just how heavily guarded
Boomerang is, Beetle goes with her. Suddenly Spider-Man appears
recognizing the van which almost ran him over earlier the sam day.)
Deadly Foes of Spider-Man #2
(Stops Beetle before he uses his special gun to shot Spider-Man,
Leila grabs a hold of Beetle's gun, so the shot hits the prsion
instead of Spider-Man. Leila says that although she hates Spider-Man
as much as Beetle do, Beetle promised Rhino that he won't kill
Spider-Man. When the special police taskforce Code: Blue arrives,
Beetle orders Leila to drive as fast as she can. When they drives
away, Beetle says that he is sorry that he let his emotions away with
him, Leila says it's okay, and thinks to herself: but it won't
happen to me, Abner. I won't let my hate for you get out of control.
Later in the Sinister Syndicate's hideout, Speed Demon continues to
"take good care" of Leila. Later Leila comes to see
Kingpin, making plans outside the Sinister Syndicate. Later at
Sinister Syndicate's hideout, talks with Speed Demon, fakes her being
sad to win him over, thinks to herself: if Boomerang ends up stuck
in jail, perhaps this fool, Speed Demon, will be able to help me
achieve mu true goal. Later she visits Boomerang in jail, and
tells him about her meetings, telsl him that she needs to leave
again, and thinks to herself that she may have more feeling for the
guy than she thought. Later in the hideout, tihnks to herself that
she knew Kingpin would lie, and wonders if she can trust any of the
Sinister Syndicate to help her achive her true goal.)
Deadly
Foes of Spider-Man #3 (While the rest of
the Sinister Syndicate are having another meeting, waits outside.
When Speed Demon and Hydro-Man comes out, they invites her to have a
beer with them. When they leave, she thinks that if she couldn't use
him, she would make him pay for the way he is treating her right now.
Then she overhears a conversation between Beetle and Steve Partridge,
the lawyer who screwed up Bommerang's case. The next day, she helps
break Boomerang out of the jail, and telsl him that she has been
using him as a pawn, just as Beetle and Kingpin have been using
Boomerang as a pawn. Tells him that she is the widow of the
supervillain known as The Ringer, who was killed by The Scourge at
the "Bar With No Name" massacre, and she blames Beetle for
her husbands death, because Beetle once used Ringer against
Spider-Man. Later after learning where Rhino is, takes Shocker and
Boomerang out to get Rhino to join them in their fight against
Beetle. When Shocker decides to leave them, Leila understands, and is
sad that Anthony didn't have the same kind of sense to leave the
supervillain business. Later at an abandoned Linotype House,
alongside Rhino and Boomerang prepares for their upcoming battle
against Beetle. Suddenly Beetle, Speed Demon and Hydro-Man attacks
Leila and her team)
Deadly Foes of
Spider-Man #4 (Manage to use her ringer
to defeat Speed Demon. Speed Demon is surprised to be defeated by the
weapons of the loser The Ringer. Leila says "They're good enough
to stop an arrogant clod like you". When Rhino has taken down
Beetle, Leila comes with one of her rings, asking if Beetle
recognises the rings, Beetle do, and Leila tells him that it's the
weapons used be her late husband, whom Beetle made feel like a
failure, and that's why she will now kill him, but Beetle manage to
break free before Leila can put a ring over his neck. Decides to go
for another chhance by taking her gun, and shot Beetle in the head,
but Spider-Man gets the gun out of her hands. She rushes to her bag
and takes the ringer weapons to try to defeat Beetle and Spider-Man.
When Spider-Man is attacked by Rhino, Leila can concentrate on
Beetle, whom she uses alot of rings on, and finally puts a ring on
Beetle's neck, but before Beetle is strangulated, Spider-Man comes to
his rescue and breaks Leila's ring., the villains are defeated and
both Beetle and Leila are taking in by the police.)

new team in her new costume and identity as Hardshell, attacks the

hideout, once again stops the three villains fighting among
themselves. Later the same evening the four vilains are having a vote
on what to do with the weapon, Vulture wants to keep the weapon,
while the rest of the team wants to sell it to A.I.M. for a billion
dollars. Suddenly their hideout is under attack from Beetle and
Stegron)

Beetle, angry at her teammate and shots at him, but he evades the
shot. which hits Stegron instead, and they all begins to fight each
other. When Beetle manage to escape with the special gun. Leila not
wanting to miss a billion dollars, decides to go after the Beetle
once more. Her team manages to capture Beetle and Leila manage to get
her hands on the gun. When Stegron lashes out after Leila, he is shot
by a guy calling himself Strikeback, whom Leila seems to recognize.)

Strikeback is who she believe him to be, then she knows which side to
stand in the fight. Hits Beetle with a beam. Asks Strikeback if he
really is her late husband, whereto Strikeback answers yes.
Strikeback tells his wife that A.I.M "resurrected" him as a
cyborg, and when she is about to give Beetle the killing blow, stops
her, saying that they should leave the supervillain business, begin a
life together anew. Leila doesn't know what to do, but in the end
