Shouldn't Falcon have been named Eagle or American Eagle or something like that?

Whilst he made his debut in a patriotic/American themed comic, he was not necessarily a patriotic/American themed hero - certainly not in the guise of Cap.

Because he had a pet falcon. He didn't have a pet eagle.

I mean no offense to homosexuals but if one guy was calling himself Captain America and the other guy was calling himself American Eagle...that would look really really gay.

I don't think they wanted Falcon to be like Robin and be Cap's less masculine sidekick.
