Positions of power attract the corrupt.

as there are loads of people that make movies. Sometimes Hollywood is used a bit to broadly, but in the studio structure it has always been varying degrees of corrupt.

Not always illegally corrupt, but very shady. And more than a few are illegally corrupt.

I think politics is much worse. Particularly as you go up the later. I remember a political science professor once saying something along the lines of you have to be power hungry and obsessed to varying degrees to want to run for federal office. Or state office in many cases. That leads to corruption.

Varying levels, but it is there. I am sure that in both situations there are good people involved though.

And a lean, silent figure slowly fades into the gathering darkness, aware at last that in this world, with great power there must also come -- great responsibility!

You see the literally hundreds to thousands of names in the credits after any big movie? By and large, those crafts people, production assistants, stunt people, drivers, special effects designers etc. are not corrupt.

True. It also occurs to me that very few women are perpetrators of these scandals -- both in politics and in Hollywood.

You indirectly bring up a great point about how the moral failing of one person can affect large swaths of people -- beyond the immediate victim(s). The collateral damage of a sex abuse scandal is vast, and unfair to the people caught in its wake.

Chicken or egg? Do those positions attract the corrupt or does holding that power do the corrupting?

Well sure but those people don't wield any power.

Power corrupts. It's one of the oldest cliches and absolutely true.

Both. No one, and I fully believe no one, wants those positions unless they want to abuse the power that comes with them. Not saying they're all assaulting people, but they're all screwing people one way or another.

And this generally runs throughout the business world, in all industries, across both liberals and conservatives.

True, but that was not entirely specified by the original poster. It very much depends on what you want to say the cut-off for Hollywood is. Does he just mean the big wigs?

...that those who CAN rule and lead others well and who DO NOT want positions of power but had them forced upon them by necessity. Seem to have often been the best leaders.

Isn't it just. After all the horror stories coming out of Hollywood recently it's wonderful to see people coming forward and reminding us that not everyone is a ba$%&rd.

I want a story like this every week, please!

And thank you Tom Hanks.

Sure, but again at different levels. Find any group of wealthy people and they are going to have some political involvement. Hollywood is not different than any other industry in that way.

Nor is that always a bad thing. It can be but not always.I feel Hollywood as a whole has also been an easy scapegoat for politicians too. Mostly for unjustified attacks, because they had their own mega phone.

Why most American's tend to care is another matter. Most politicians are not sure what they are talking about. And reality tv stars in particular are not sources of policy knowledge.
