Just read Defenders #3. It seems like Bendis went out of his way to make it clear that Luke and the rest don't know who DD is under his mask. I thought that since Bendis's own initial run on Daredevil that everyone knows Matt is DD?

The Purple Children did it as related in issue 20 of the current Daredevil series. The Purple Man has a bunch of kids from different women that he seduced/raped and these kids have his same powerset. They liked Daredevil and took it upon themselves to go around the city telling everyone to forget Daredevil was Matt.

Are the kids really THAT powerful? And what about the autobiography? Didn't it get published? What about all of the old newspaper stories? Doesn't The Kingpin (Isn't he something of a good guy now?) have the resources to find out? This seems rather shaky.

It's a lazy explanation. But they had to give you an explanation. So accept it on that level and just try to move on.
