Spider Island: Spider-Woman #1 (2011)

Not a fan of Spider-woman and the cohesiveness of maintaining interconnecting chronology during this Event is weakening sooo was not expecting to like this at all - buuut... it was a good read!

Also, intended on posting on the AMB originally, before realizing this had A LOT of FF content. The Spider Editors seem to have had a lot of creative leeway with FF characters lately which... has been a good thing so far!

Good stuff:
-near perfect cover. Who needs a hammer when you got street signs! \:\) [Though not sure why the buildings are targets/falling.]
-PrevPage recap choices and themed format
-spiders are creepy twist on a unique way to retell her origin in only 1 page
-"3 days" and "MOST of inhabitants of Manhattan" and "Alicia Masters to turn her into an experimental super-soldier". LOVED those 3 VERY informative bits of information. http://www.comixology.com/previews/JUL110627/2/ This page put me in a GOOD and receptive reading mood!
-FANTASTIC MTiO footnote! Aaah the memories! [Though not sure if my longbox holds ALL 4 issues... will have to go recheck/reread for sure!]
-important Spi Isl role of REED complete with a DETAILED instory map. Plus his long overdue update on ALICIA! [Though not sure why he says 60 minutes instead of 1 hour.]
-her narration of her connection to the Spider-mind and current sitch read much nicer than the art on this page. So, it looks like the citizens are destroying their own city - that'll be a twist when they look for a scapegoat after its all over. So, it looks like Drew ends up websaving that one attacker which is a nice touch if true
-the SURPRISE return of Gypsy Moth! Not my favorite character but much more identifiable than Skien. [Though not sure about that costume design if she made it.]
-mid air fight choreography better than more fights than not this month
-we get an Alicia heavy story. [Though not sure why she was immune, how she holed up for that long, or why she might recognize Thunderbolt creds of Gypsy Moth.]
-closed quarters fight choreography better than more fights than not this month
-Ben's entrance. [Though not sure why Drew took a shot at him other than sloppy, sloppy reflex upon waking maybe.]
-remembering Torch
-entertaining predicament and twist to encourage the standard prerequisite battle among friends
-IT'S CLOBBERIN' O'CLOCK!
-how she was forced to get Ben to see her
-good, good that Ben stayed to save the co-eds to make up for that horrible showing awhile ago when he was in the middle of a battle with the Avengers and just up and left the trouble 'cuz his FF family were in distress
-flying chase to save Alicia kept the story pace nice and fast. [Though not sure how she flew without her underarm webwings.]
-whole scene with Alicia's choice
-Spider-woman's choice... of words to make her self-discovery believable and give full circle from her dream opening [Though not sure if readers/Drew just assume all is forgiven and forgotten with Angrir actions.]
-one and done, done right
