I don't know much about Vandal Savage (Hasn't he undergone some retcons?), but I read that him and Wally used to be major enemies and that he was quite active in his book after Post Crisis. Were there any real good or standout encounters? I read that Vandal is or was very sadistic and evil. I do like what I read of/from the character, so I am interested in reading about his rivalry with Wally. Thanks.

They fought more than a few times. I think Vandal was the villain in that first storyline in Wally's solo book.

Personally I never saw him as an arch rival like say Captain Cold or Reverse Flash. I think even then Vandal has a rep as someone who could take on the Justice League.

Gotta agree here. Wally had a long run as the main Flash so I am surprised he never had his opposite, his own "Lex Luthor". But if he did, I'd pick Hunter Zolomon AKA Zoom.

It's interesting that a hero/villain performs one amazing feat, or use a power they haven't used for 20+ years, and that automatically propels them to a high status despite scans and evidence to the contrary. I don't know what is worse, selective feat picking that has only been done once or twice 20, or more, years ago or ignoring evidence from scans or the lack thereof. We need to stop putting our favorite heroes/villains on pedestals and start putting them where they really belong.

It's an interesting point to note that upon reflecting on Wally's debut as The Flash back in 1987 Vandal Savage could indeed be described as his archfoe.
Mike Baron made him Wally's first challenge in his debut two issues as he had a strong history with the Jay and Barry Flashes and was suitably threatening and mysterious as a concept, a very credible opponent for the new Flash - nowhere better put across than in that final page in issue #1. Savage returns later in the year for issues 13 & 14 thereabouts introducing the Velocity 9 drug, he then next appears in the run-up to issue #50, and thereafter I don't think anyone returned to him.
That's a bit of a shame really as while Wally was evolving fast after his fiftieth issue he still didn't have any foe who could be said to be his 'kingpin' figure, and Savage didn't have any other natural place to find a home in at that time.
