Tonight, I read Operation Peril #9, an ACG comic from 1952. Usually, ACG is known for their fantasy magazines. This ACG title focuses on adventure - three thrilling adventures. The first story is a detective yarn starring Danny Danger. The witty dialogue between the detective and the policeman enhances the plot about diamond smugglers. Seeing the policeman disguised as a lady reporter lends a little bit of humor to the exciting story. Next is a science fiction tale starring the Time Travelers - a scientist and his girlfriend. These two are employed by two connivers to determine the existence of a tribe in the Arctic six thousand years ago. Plot seems far-fetched but the plot, characterization, and dynamics between the hero and the heroine make this a favorable story for this science fiction fan. Lastly the third story features Typhoon Tyler in a jungle adventure story with a twist. A pretty lady archaeologist, who inherited a saber-toothed tiger skull from her grandfather, employs our hero to help her to find a complete saber-toothed tiger skeleton on a jungle mountain. Chased by thieves seeking treasure and fierce natives, the couple manage to find a hidden valley in the mountain and find something more than what they desired. Artwork on this story is credited to Ogden Whitney, a favorite of mine. Altogether, a terrific read. ACG produced some interesting books.
