ANALYSIS
It's been a while since I made one of these posts and there's been a few changes.

Jenn's book was changed back to She-Hulk as predicted by most people. And predictably, it didn't have much of an impact. At least it seems to be settling in a core audience, and while so many comic shops closing that number just isn't going to go higher. They won't cancel it, but they can't be happy with that number especially if it goes lower. The title doesn't have a dedicated fan base like Ms Marvel or future plans like Captain Marvel and there's no team to tie her to, so expect it to continue to languish. At least until the next time someone has a plan to try and reinvigorate things. If the MCU does go ahead with an all female team in Phase 4, maybe something will be done, but it's doubtful.

Champions.. originally I included the numbers to see if the character worked better as a team. Marvel's attempt at pushing legacy heroes as a new team should have worked on paper but with all the backlash seems to be imploding. The buzz that was once there is gone and like most other titles is in the teens with no signs of stopping. The Avengers crossover bumped it for two issues and resumed its usual decline. It's another book that's safe from cancellation with online sales and the desire for Marvel to have a younger skewed title. I have no idea what they can do to boost numbers again, as the last time Marvel tried a Battle Royale storyline which was fun, but stressed fans and didn't result in higher sales.

Finally, the main title. Marvel announced a plan for Banner to return. Going back to the nostalgia well, they renamed the title and reused a popular storyline. Partly for synergy with the Thor movie and partly cause they threw everything else at the wall. Abandoning the carefree attitude and bringing back the haunted/tortured character arc reserved for Banner, which necessitated Cho taking over the role. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Speaking of which, Hulk's return in Avengers is exactly that so far. Once again, Hulk is back from the dead -- three in the past year or so, more so if you go back through the years. So it's no wonder he's being pushed as the Immortal Hulk now, presumably with a title change, if you're so cynically inclined.

Kudos to Marvel for not pulling a character from another time or cloning or any number of other cliched methods used over the years. And going cosmic is the ultimate "We don't have to explain anything" method. All in all, fans seem to be happy he's getting the push the character deserves -- presumably rejoining the Avengers team. He's being treated as a major challenge by cosmic entities and the Avengers teams. This however, can be potentially a problem for a segment of Hulk fans..

Recall that some fans were not a fan of PAD introducing the healing factor on his run. They said the Hulk was less resistant yadda yadda yadda.. whereas some fans were happy with abilities putting him in Wolverine's league. The question remains to be seen though -- like Wolverine will the Hulk find himself defined by this seemingly new ability (from Marvels POV) to not die? Will they kill him off like Kenny over and over to show how dangerous a new enemy is? Will he be akin to Jason from the Friday the 13th series unstoppable? etc, etc.

I'll be tracking Avengers numbers as well in the future, so maybe we'll see if these changes resound with fans or if it's too little, too late. With Axel gone, change seems to be coming, and as any Hulk fan knows change is the one constant with the title.
