DC is unlikely to ever sell him off, but Marvel has the Captain Marvel trademark and they won't sell that, so it is a stalemate.

But let's say Shazam does migrate to Marvel, despite DC thinking he is too close of a Superman rip off. Would he fit well in the MU?

I think that yes he would. PROVIDED he is not retconned/shoehorned into continuity as a retried character making a comeback. he needs to be brought in brand new to continuity, as Billy Batson having just gained his powers.

marvel has Superman analogues in Hyperion and The Sentry (hate that character), and they have the rights to Marvelman which is basically the U.K. version of Shazam. So Shazam should fit in rather well, perhaps even better then Hyperion or Sentry.

Also another hero that can give the Hulk a good fight can't be bad to have around ;\)

Firstly, his name is Captain Marvel,NOT Shazam! Shazam is the old wizard who gave Billy Batson his powers.

I dunno about Captain Marvel fitting well in the MU. It would be interesting to see how his rogues gallery would. Mr.Mind/Scarlet Beetle team-up anyone?

I think he'd be redundant. He brings nothing to the table that Marvel needs. Only their trademark lawyers may think otherwise.

Personally I dislike Superman analogues. Especially since so many near-analogues already exist. Strength/flight/speed/durability/energy beams/special sensory capabilities - that's Superman from a power set perspective. That's also Iron Man. Silver Surfer. Doctor Doom. Mar-Vell post-Eon. Frankly it's the sensory capabilities that are most unique. Take them away and just focus on strength/flight/speed/durability/energy beams. Now we can add Carol Danvers. Black Bolt. Nova. Moonstone.

Even Hyperion and Gladiator are redundant.

Superman isn't Superman because of the power set. He's Superman because his sense of responsibility is a match for his power. Steve Rogers is Marvel's true Superman clone. Steve's sense of responsibility is a match for his athletic and martial perfection and his nearly supernatural charisma. He doesn't need the physical ability to change the course of mighty rivers. He can point toward the river and six powerhouses will get busy.

But here's a different question: Do you think the Disney company could find a use for Shazam!Captain Marvel? Here the answer is a definite yes. But not in the Marvel Universe. Disney could start a brand new superhero universe aimed at a younger crowd, with Shazam!Captain Marvel as its centerpiece. I'm not talking about comic books. Not primarily, any way. I'm talking about movies. (After all, movies are the only things that really matter. The comic books are simply this brilliant stratagem whereby Marvel gets fans to consume movie-promoting marketing materials and pay for the privilege of doing so!)

No. Because he's too close of a Superman rip off. We've already got Gladiator, Sentry and a half dozen Hyperions. We don't NEED anymore Supermen.

Or be...what's the word...redundant. Yes he would be redundant.

He would be better off at DC where they can dump him in one of their alternate realities (or just use the pre new-52 version)

I'm not saying Billy isn't good enough to be in the Marvel Universe. I just don't think he would thrive there. He seems to be too positive to exist in a dark and dreary place like Marvel.

Iron Man Unit's love of Marvel's Mar-Vell probably prohibits him from calling Billy that name \:\)

DC Calls him SHAZAM now as they acknowledge that Marvel has the trademark to Captain Marvel.

DC therefore cannot publish a book titled Captain Marvel, ergo he is now SHAZAM.

So I call him SHAZAM.

I have fond memories of the Giffen & DeMatteis JL book when some of the characters made funny comments about Captain Marvel & Mary Marvel being so different and so innocent that they seem to come from a totally different universe ...

IMO, the Marvel family should go back to "Earth-S/Earth-5" and have their own world, own rules.

To begin with, the Fawcett Marvel books were fun & funny (they were literally comic books, actually).

IMO, that's how a Shazam book should be.

Black Adam shouldn't behave like a Namor rip-off just because he has pointed ears.

Captain Marvel shouldn't be compared all the time to Superman and shouldn't appear as an useless guest-star in other DC books ...

Mister Mind & Tawny are too cartoonish characters to fit well with other DC or Marvel comics characters ...

Unfortunately, not anymore ... DC has decided to change the rules. \:\-\(

I'd be down with that!

In answer to the original question, I think Cap would have fit in very well decades ago, but now Marvel has so many proliferating Superman analogues that he'd be one of a crowd, and hence redundant.

I loved Black Adam as a Namor rip off. Because DC let Black Adam be more Namor like than Marvel allowed Namor to be Namor like.

Black Adam was a way better Namor than Namor IMO.

Yes, yes, yes! Shazam is the Wizard and for years Billy was called Captain Marvel.

DC now calls him SHAZAM because they acknowledge Marvel has the trademark and that Marvel has an active Captain Marvel using it. So now he's SHAZAM.

Let's say Hyperion is sent back to his world/universe and the Sentry stays dead (please keep him dead)

Gladiator stays with the Shi'ar I always thought he was a good character despite being Superman with purple skin and a mohawk.

Marvel then brings in Shazam/Captain Marvel as their Superman.

This of course presumes that Marvel keeps screwing up THOR.....

Can we do all of that AND not take Billy? That would be the best scenario IMO.

He was last seen flying off with the dead Celestial in Uncanny Avengers v1.

I'm just grateful he wasn't a part of Secret Empire.

I believe it is still Shazam but I don't keep up with DC much except the GL books.

Stil awaiting the return of the original Alan Scott.
