Luke Cage 169 (2018)
It was the evocative cover that had me get this ish and retry it after dropping the book with what started as an unoriginal filler adventure. It probably would have worked much better as a single issue. The cover was such a eye-grabbing image with it's homage -if not copy concept - to an old Hulk issue http://www.coverbrowser.com/image/hulk-2000/44-1.jpg. Of course, a warning has to be nitted ..err.. noted: that fantastic image and scenario does NOT happen. Also, the inside art is not as good as that excellent picture.
Well, the Jones vs Purple Man clash ..err.. make that Cage vs Ringmaster clash is finally over. About what you'd expect from a fight against a mind controlled community. To be fair, it's a solid -if predictable- conclusion, to a decompressed arc; if you've never seen Jess or Spidey or DD do similar in the past then you'll like it more. Maynard Tiboldt appears just as major a threat as Zebediah Killgrave ever did - even if he needs his hypnosis spinwheel hat to trigger his audio mind control/brain washing power - whereas Zeb only needs the visual element. And just as PM has his purple factor it turns out that RM has a 'freak element' now, too, as it is revealed(1st time right?) that Tib has an extra enlarged cranium! (The supervillain must have stolen it from Karnak who has long since lost his. ) So, after all that we get a happy ending - with the whole guest cast of throwaway people that really won't matter to readers tomorrow.
Maybe the next ish will be a
