Spider-Men II (2017) 003 (of 5)
A second "Spider-man" book, in as many weeks, with NO appearance of Peter Parker whatsoever. Hmmph. The reason this one irks me much more than ASM 32 Vol.2 Green Goblin spotlight is that it's a forced retcon to spotlight the origin of a Wilson Fisk partnership/friendship with the mystery Miles Morales who originated in the 616. You can say it's unrevealed canon but, no, to me it's a retcon along with all the building block elements that must tweak the development/backstory of The Kingpin that "we know". Plus, there was no satisfying explanation (could there be?) explaining the difference in age and race from Miles 1610 that was reintigrated over here ("thank you very much Owen Reece" he said sarcastically). And, it was all flashback clearly to the time when Wilson took over as crimelord but no good reference to how it fits in sequetntially to a numbered issue of volume 1 ASM. It has a Netflix feel to it in regards to Fisk's characterization which, in that way, is meant as a compliment. But 616-Miles comes off as a nobody - a poor, sweet, honorable mafia man but still a nobody; so why would Peter be so secretive about that? And the bafflement there continues.
Nice art. Disturbingly, gratuitous prison butchery. Sadly no followup from last ish. Stupid cover choice.
