Subj: Spider-Man Canon?
Posted: Sun Sep 24, 2017 at 01:08:57 am EDT (Viewed 79 times)

I'm a long time comics collector (Marvel and DC)...my parents bought me my first comic (Incredible Hulk #213) when I was 4. I actually stopped reading modern Marvels after Secret Wars #1. I figured, if the 616 and Ultimate universes no longer existed then that was a good place to stop reading (my attraction with modern comics had been waning since New Avengers #1...something changed when Spider-Man, Wolverine, and Luke Cage were made Avengers). Anyway, I've decided to come back to Spider-Man (he has always been my all-time favorite character) and I'm caught up on Amazing Spider-Man. But...I have some questions about other titles...I buy all of my books online nowadays, so don't get the 'in-store' buzz anymore. Two titles have me confused: Spider-Man/Deadpool...is this book in canon, and if so...when does it occur? I ask this because as of Uncanny Avengers #1..Spider-Man quits the team (how/when did he join? is this during the whole 'hidden' 8 months that Marvel promised would be explored, but we all knew wouldn't be?)...and the reason he cites is...he can't stand Deadpool (I find this to be no surprise...funny is one thing...idiotic 'I can talk to the readers, because I'm a comic book character' isn't funny...at least to this jaded collector). So, if Spidey can't stand him...why are they a team? See, my problem?

Also...Peter Parker: Spectacular Spider-Man....all I read about this book is that it is the 'funny' 'crazy' 'humorous' book...I don't know who Chip Zdarsky is or why I should automatically be impressed that he is writing this book. But that's neither here nor there...my question again is...is this canon? Internet comments seem to place this as a 'stand-alone' title...but again, maybe not?

I would appreciate any help in clarifying these books...as I don't want to buy anything that is just going to turn out to be 'alternate' stories.

Thanks in advance.
