The new era of RYV has begun. A new writer and artist, as well as a time skip, what has changed for the Parker family?

Aside from a more moody Annie May...nothing of note it seems. Peter and MJ are still as strong and stable as they ever were, full of admiration for their "pretty cool" family and eager to give their daughter a nice experience before she begins to attend school.

They go to the carnival, but Annie is still in a mood, and as she finds herself finding difficulty with a game, Peter and MJ fall into the cliched trappings of try-too-hard parents in an attempt to encourage her, which only leaves her seething. Cue one Lizard attack later, and she finally cheers up at the prospect of an exciting battle.

So much of what the writing on this issue offers could have been strengthened by a more captivating artist, but alas the doodles here are the kind of thing you have in a comic aimed at juniors more than a general audience. Annie's teenage portryal isn't anything ground breaking either. Mary Jane is supportful and chilled though, which is always rare form for her character in the mainline titles these days, so good to see her at ease with the Parker profession here..after all, she's part of it.

I'll give this 3 and half stars.
