The comics have claimed Liz and Mark are "step siblings" from ASM #133 and onward. But are we sure that the term hasn't been misapplied and they are in fact half siblings? (some of my dumber and/or older relatives don't quite understand the distinction)

Is Mark's mother Doris Raxton also Liz's biological mother or just her step-mother? Have we ever found out one way or the other?

As someone with a brother five years older, and a half brother 14 years older, I can sympathies. I spent a good portion of grade school explaining why I had a brother a decade ans a half older.

According to this Website:

http://marvel.wikia.com/wiki/Mark_Raxton_(Earth-616)

They are indeed step-siblings. With Doris Raxton giving Molten Man his surname, presumably from her first marriage.

Of course, that doesn't mean anything REALLY.

The problem is that as far as I know, little else about Liz or Mark's childhood has been revealed. Which I find disappointing, ever since I learned about the relationship back in the 90s (Legacy of evil/ Dematteis Spectacular run), I have found it interesting.

I do get where you are coming from, they are very close family, with seemingly little connection to other family members, that FEELS more half than step... but I suppose that would really depend on how young they were when their parents got married and how close they grew in that time.

Mark is only.. what, a seven years older? At the most. If she was already in High school, he would have been in college. There would be little chance for bonding.

I wil say, I think it WAS intended to be step, since it was introduced with Mark attacking her. While it isn't necessarily very real, from a writing standpoint, it is probably a play on"evil step siblings."

Hope I didn't bore you with my rambling.

That same site on Doris's entry claims Mark is from her first marriage and Liz from her second marriage
