I disagree, the Kirby Thor run had plenty of trippy visuals. Not Doctor Strange levels, but still. I get the feeling that Jack relished Thor, because he could show off awesome triply visuals that only his Fantastic Four run could match at the time. I think it seems very appropriate to have the movie shaped by Jack Kirby's art considering that this would be his 100th birthday.

"Relating to, or suggestive of a "trip" on psychedelic drugs"?  Not my Thor.

As a steady diet in Thor, I would agree.  But then there are things like this:

Double Page Spread Thor 133 pages 2 and 3

So, it's not as though the Thor comic hasn't had its moments either.  ;\)

Cheers,
Neil

Even Batman has had some "trippy" stories. Spider-man, yup. But those titles, like Thor, can not be summarised as "trippy", the way Taika Waititi seem to think the Thor comics is about. Which brings up my concern on how his movie's overall tone would be. I mean...Flash Gordon???? Now that's trippy.

Just seesm liek DC is now finally getting it right, with WW and upcoming JLA, while Marvel seems to be wanting to get rid of what they see as being too PC, as in Male Thor, Hulk etc!

To each their own.  Personally I have always felt that Thor should have been more "trippy" in terms of visuals especially considering it has 8 realms outside of Midgard (which I have always felt Midgard should have been clearly defined as the entire 616 three-dimensional universe).

Only Dr. Strange should have been more "trippy" (again in terms of visuals).

Instead we were given for the most part mundane planets and mundane dimensions with mundane looking aliens or mythological creatures. with minor exceptions here and there.

Peace,
Neil

It's based on mythology, it's meant to look epic. So the places and creatures of the 9 realms should be based (inspired) from the myths. But Thor's adventures in the Black Galaxy, or Negative Zone, or inside a Celestial...fine, make the visuals "trippy".
