I just saw it. It's a good movie. But not great. The only thing I loved about it was the actors. They assembled a great cast. And it was a pretty good story. But, there's very little re-watchability to it. It's comparable to Dr. Strange and the first Thor movie. So, where did it go wrong? Poor cinematography, very weak combat choreography, an over-reliance on CGI, and an uninspiring soundtrack.
The 2 things that bugged me most: killing off Klaw, before he even became Klaw. Are you kidding me? Panther's arch-enemy reduced to a two-bid arms dealer who gets snuffed like some nobody? We got robbed of seeing a pretty cool villain, with impressive powers. And he'll never get to be on the Masters of Evil. This isn't just a lack of foresight, it's blatant stupidity.
And the lacklustre combat. T'Challa (and Killmonger) are supposed to be elite hand-to-hand combatants. Neither demonstrated that in the movie. The fighting was vastly superior in both the Winter Soldier, and Civil War. There's no excuse for not continuing the trend. It's pretty sad when a movie with a budget of tens of millions has combat that's overshadowed by the Daredevil and Iron Fist TV shows. Big time fail.
One minor thing, I can't say I like the power upgrade the Panther's got in contemporary times. It's over-the-top, with all the energy bursts. The Panther is all about 'stealth and cunning.' Who needs that when you've got Iron Man style tech to blast things around. The Panther is a different kind of hero. What we were given was formulaic.
