Falcon 001 (2017)
His new bulletproof costume looks whatever the current street slang is for cool.
20 pages of the ex-Captain Samerica's personality/motivation reclaiming his signature Falcon role is more of the same we saw all through Secret Empire. Good for new readers but somewhat rehash for faithful followers. Except, that bit about his father, the pastor, being a lying landlord was new, right?
Redwing yanking that handgun was such a cool moment that barely distracted the ignoring of his lazer-eyed vampire-bird status.
Raytriot comes across as nothing special as of yet. Will he be like Mircochip was to Punisher only more athletic? Hopefully we can assume that Avengers Academy has long since been retroactively been closed - 'cuz why wouldn't he just join that program rather than continue as sidekick for an active Avenger? And speaking of sidekicks, please please please have Joaquin officially and immediately find just cause to give up his "Falcon" codename!!!
They really should've given more details to this "Headquarters" that Sam mentions and credence to Misty still being Team Sam after Secret Empire and after The Jane Affair. Also, Falc's off panel team up with disbanded Unity Squad Avenger Doc Voodoo was unfulfilling if not just lazy namedropping - specifically/deliberately using another black superhero.
The gang violence plot pitch came across as... average. Same grade as this premiere gets. With the exception of the last page surprise of who's behind it all. At least this Return of Blackheart seems to offer more story potential than his stint as the premiere foe in current the volume's Spider-Miles #1.
This panel is crazy and the most... curious thing to this relaunch:
That comment is extremely curious and potentially outrageous panel. So, Sam seemingly suggests that Kobik's (whacky) S.E. history rewrite is still real to him? That's whack. It might be true by Marvel's direction - probably the "Icer" thing: https://www.comicboards.com/php/show.php?msg=camb-2017101020210932
- but it's still just whack.
