Because I have combed a bunch of the old archives and a lot of print articles I still had from Waid regarding his work on the JLA and superheroes and I still come up with Nada. Even with the Kyle thing, the blame most of the press was about was in regards to Alex Ross disliking GL, not Mark Waid.

I'm not being a jerk here, but are there sources about this dislike for secondary characters taking up the main mantle role? I'm really just curious.

I think Twitter is stupid... so I will guess no, not that.

It was not an overarching contempt for secondary characters. or legacy. It was just Kyle Rayner.

Now, in fairness, a lot of people disliked Kyle for a lot of reasons. I personally liked him fine... but not as much as other GLs.

I read it around the time of Hal Jordan's return. I believe he mentioned a few other characters he disliked for doing similar things.

I even believe (And don't quote me on this) that he stated he wanted the dislike between Kyle and Wally that was present for most of his tenure, to be because of his personal dislike for Kyle... who he viewed as a usurper.

Given that time period... and it was longer ago than I like to admit to myself... I will guess MAYBE Wizard.

Of course, the only time I ever picked up Wizard was when I stopped into a bookstore in upstate Michigan. Being from Detroit, that was not a monthly purchase.
