Surfer beating Alan himself is doubtful. Alan is the top of the herald tier and sometimes breaking above it. He is explicitly the top dog of JSA even when Captain Marvel, Black Adam and Dr Fate were on the team.

Yet in JSA #6, when the entire JSA fights Black Adam, Black Adam is beating them all including Alan. Hourman and Dr. Fate have to go back in time to channel lightning to the present and turn Black Adam into his human form in order for the JSA to beat him. So no, Alan is not explicitly the top dog when Black Adam is on the team and Captain Marvel of course has the same powers as Black Adam.

Alan is not shown fighting Adam. Alan is directly shown to be the top dog against Ultra Humanite and defeats Obsidian twice where both Dr Fate and Captain Marvel failed to even slow him down.

Surfer isn't the top dog of Defenders, it's either Strange or Hulk.

    Good one.

Could you show us where Surfer is shown to be the big gun of Defenders ahead of Hulk or Strange?

Namor is less of a speed bump to Adam than Alan is to Surfer. You're highly underestimating Alan and overestimating Surfer as usual for Marvel fans. I'm being very generous to give Surfer 50/50 odds against Alan.

It is a wonder when you give Marvel characters any chance against DC characters.

I'm giving Surfer 50/50 chance against Alan when Alan is a clear favorite based on his status and feats.
