Yeah, it is not a good situation. Not like the situation was even in a great spot before Trump did anything but this shifts it into overdrive.

It is ironic because a few months ago they were big on the two state solution and were sending people to work it out. Now they just toss it aside.

It really does seem that Trump gets all his policy views off of watching Hannity and checking out conservative websites that are not know for factual accuracy.

One thing I'll give Trump credit for, and he did this unintentionally, is that he kicked things over to the international courts. Palestinians have the moral high ground in abandoning negotiations. Prior to Trump, there was a phony-baloney pretense that America was an honest broker, but the chance for peace shrank as the decades passed and Israel became increasingly right-wing.

Eventually every country is going to have to decide, in America's absence, to recognize Palestinian statehood. I suspect many will. Israel could very well be tried in international court for war crimes, especially if they continue to expand on Palestinian land.

Trump is also now bound to Israel, and visa-versa, effectively turning Israel into a fringe issue. The BDS movement will grow and become mainstream.

That is a fair point that I had not thought too much about. Trump abdicating so much of the US's authority is concerning. The shocking thing is that many conservatives seem to think he is acting tough but taking an all or nothing approach to everything.

Just going to hurt the US in the long run. The US is a key piece of the world, but are not the world. China, Europe, Russia and others are more than happy to try and fill the void. And in at least two of those cases (and in ways even the third) human rights are not something they care about at all.

Not that the US has been a great leader on moral authority but at least they have tried in some respects with various countries.

The Palestinian Chief Negotiator just said that the two-state solution is effectively dead, and that the Palestinians new goal should be One State (Israel) with equal rights for the Palestinians.

Which, of course, would end Israel as a Jewish state (which it arguably isn't now, with 22% of the Israeli population already being non-Jewish or Arab).

Israel cannot be a Jewish state while being also democratic. If they go the one-state route, it can't be an apartheid state.
