    Generally, such laws aren't really measuring the value of the person or their life. They're measuring the value of their work and/or contribution to society, and even then only within a narrow focus.

True - they're not measuring emotional significance.

    "Priceless" doesn't really mean infinite value. It just means incalculable. It means about the same thing as a daughter telling her parents she loves them, "Thiiiiiiiiiis much."

Yet a supposedly priceless painting would be insured for some value, perhaps 50 million dollars.

    My opinion is that one life is worth more than that which can ever be made up for.

How much would you spend of society's money to save one life if money could solve the life-threatening problem? A trillion dollars? Is there any line in the sand you wouldn't cross? Bankrupt the whole country, for example? Bankrupt the whole world?
