Now, Peterson had a gun, training and the whole point of him being there was to protect the students.

4 minutes is a long time and it sounds like, he bottled it.

It's understandable, a handgun is nothing compared to an automatic weapon, but he did have a chance which is a lot more than anyone else did.

It gets even worse. Apparently there were 3 other deputies at the school who also didn't enter the building. They waited in their cars. The Sheriff is probably gonna lose his job because of this. And he should I think. I don't know how the community can have faith in his department after these revelations.

I didn't know that, I think that information wasn't out when I posted that message.

But, yeah, that's bad. 4 armed and trained people, should have been able to take him down.

I am annoyed about this. The way american's say they need 'good guy's with guns'- they had 4 of them and they didn't do anything.

This isn't the wild west. Having a gun doesn't make you 'the right guy'.

They wouldn't have wanted to go in, because they would of heard automatic fire and they probably thought 'I'm not going in there'.

The fact that the police were screaming at the kids to get back in the building, shows some real cowardly fear IMO. They were more concerned with:

a) looking like they were doing something (the bare minimum)
b) absolutely petrified of the situation and willing to allow unarmed students to die, rather than try and safeguard them

These are the kind of guys who would have posed for photographs in their uniforms, but crunch time showed they had no business being in the job.
