I think there can be something to that, but I am not sure how you get around that. People use comparisons all of the time. Even if it is to describe a new character using different qualities of other characters.

I would disagree with Lisa on that one. As it does not have to be a perfect comparison just because of the nature of comparisons. In many cases the loose description should encourage somebody to look at the source material.

A comparison is almost like just reading the cliffs notes of a book and calling it a day. You miss details that define a character or story and do not do it justice. To me, it is at best a potential introduction. It does not mean the characters are the same.
