At its heart, the FF concept is about exploration. I really liked the term Imaginauts to describe them. Sure they are a family, but that's incidental.

Would an ongoing TV show be a better fit for them? They go on a trip to explore the mysteries of the galaxy, or the microverse, or the Negative Zone, or wherever?

Think Star Trek or Lost in Space, but with the core four. Would that be better and/or get around this Fox thing?

I'll go against the grain and say YES - I think an ongoing series on television would be a good fit for the FF. At their core, the FF is a family of adventurers and explorers. Look at Star Trek for example. It makes a good movie, but it was a great series. The FF might work quite well in a serial drama/adventure fashion.

Also, if they can pull of Inhumans as a series, they could certainly do Fantastic Four. How many more times do we want to see the same origin story play out in the movies?

Since they can't pull off a decent movie, why not a series?
