I can't disagree with you at all. I always think back to the last great event I can recall.. Annihilation, when Nova was talking about how bad it would be for Earth if the wave arrived and the line was something like, "But.., They have the Fantastic Four".. as in Screw you Annihilation wave. The FF will own you.

Probably the LAST time they got the respect they deserved.

I picked up Spotlight as well, based on your posting. Indeed, there will be a Fantastic 3 story arc in the incredibly lame Moongirl. The FF logo has been modified to a circle with a 3 in it.

The art looks decent to be honest, though a bit on the juvenile Marvel Adventures side in terms of presentation. This is clearly to prop-up this flagging ANAD title which sold around 7K issues in September. While it meets my criteria to clear my Marvel boycott (FF members must have a major role).....I'm not sure I would like to see another version of Valeria browbeating Johnny and Ben for being old school. Based on the preview in Spotlight, that looks like exactly what it will be. The writers make a point to let readers know that this sassafras kid is "smarter" than Mr. Fantastic. Sure Marvel....whatever you say, LMAO.

Some examples of dialog:

Ben: "Don't you remember the Fantastic Four?

Moongirl: "I guess."

Johnny: "Pffft..."

This exchange is quite telling on the part of the writer. The brilliant Moongirl really doesn't remember the Fantastic Four? Right. Because they weren't significant enough? No - more likely because Marvel's current crop of writers have such little regard for the Fantastic Four. And this is reflected in characters such as Moongirl (smartest person in the Marvel Universe according to Amadeus Cho...). Some will write this off as a smart-mouthed kid, but I don't see it that way. It suggests a deeper level of disrespect on the part of current Marvel culture and how it treats venerable properties such as the Fantastic Four - and how it regards fans of same.

This one is on my watch list, but I'm not committing yet. I may pick up while it features Ben and Johnny. But otherwise, this is just a different version of Valeria out on an adventure with the boys.

Also looking at the MTIO cover in the Spotlight, they now show the FF Logo with a 2 in a circle, so indeed the Halftastic Four. Not sure if Marvel is easing the FF back in, or simply throwing tidbits of Marvel's days of yore by using Johnny and Ben and second string D-Listers. We will see.
