I disagree. Zdarsky is the best writer the FF have had this century.

Clearly you haven't read Jonathan Hickman's run, or Mark Waid's, or Dwayne McDuffie's.

I hated them all. Deeply despised them. Mark Millar's as well.

This was the one and only prank Reed Richards ever played in his whole life. Ben actually says this in the comic. People can do things one time and then never again. It really does happen.

As I attempted to clarify above, the flashback goes on to point out how Reed supposedly "re-applied" the prank whenever it was undone, which completely invalidates the argument of it being a one time only action.

No it doesn't. It's all still the same prank. Reed was just making sure his one prank "stuck." Ben says this in the comic.

Johnny's flame now works as a cleaning agent against bacteria and plaque?!? Really? That's beyond ridiculous - and needs to be retconned away asap.

This makes total sense. Extreme heat kills bacteria. It also burns away sticky goo such as plaque. Toss a corpse into a furnace, then check the ashes for the bacteria that live in the human body. You won't find any. You also won't find any plaque.

Yeah, and Johnny's flame is sophisticated enough to distinguish between probiotics or helpful bacteria from the bad germs...because Johnny's flame is known to have a degree in molecular biology so as to be able to identify the difference between the two as it passes through his body....???? The more you try to stretch this type of comic book science, the more idiotic it becomes.

He doesn't burn on the inside of his body. Only on the outside.

You're really overthinking this, in my opinion. Is your real problem the fact that no other writer ever said it before? Don't you think it's kind of cool to get some new FF lore?
