That doesn't come as a great surprise. His character came from nowhere but was heavy handedly designed as a reasonably challenging antagonist for Barry Allen to struggle with. Instantly unlikable that was his function. Yet he seemed to becomes a swift victim to heavy rewriting as the producers changed directions constantly and for all the world appeared to be making the show up as they went along. As such the character was something that just appeared in Barry's crime-lab one day, made his life difficult briefly, and by even mid-season stopped making much sense.
Little surprise the man has departed for fresher fields.
Yeah I really can't see this as a bad thing for the show or the actor.
He was shoe-horned in as part of the effects of Flashpoint and as others have said the writing was a bit all over the place.
