I remember seeing the movie when it came out, and I thought that it was, at worst, entertaining. I know that people didn't really care for Ryan Reynolds, but I didn't have a problem with him. I did think that Hal was a bit of an a-you know what, but he became better as the movie went on. His relationship with Sinestro was cool as well. Overall, I think that the movie is not as bad as it's reputation. I certainly don't think that it sunk the DC movie verse. Come to think of it, I wouldn't mind seeing a Green Lantern TV show, because DC seems to do TV better than movies.

Ryan Reynolds would have made a better Kyle then Hal.

The overall directing and especially editing of the movie is also what hurt it. Sinestro at the end puts on the yellow ring, after seeing that the power of Green did in fact beat Parallax when ONE GL, and a rookie at that, sucked it up and mustered all his will and courage to defeat the incarnation of fear itself. So exactly why did Sinestro still switch to yellow? Badly explained.

The Hal we had in the movie was essentially the Hal from Emerald Dawn but Reynolds portrayed him poorly.

Hal is a space cowboy, fearless and adventurous, not the wet noodle crybaby that Reynolds portrayed.

Bad casting, bad directing and bad editing.
