The events you are curious about were based around the Alan Scott introduced in the Earth-2 reimagining of the Justice Society characters from James Robinson. In the very first issue we are introduced to a young and handsome media magnate called Alan Scott and follow him as he keeps an appointment with boyfriend Sam. Shortly after they are on a high speed train which is caught in an explosion that kills most or all onboard, inclusing Sam, and Alan is saved only by a mysterious entity granting him the power of the green.
Alan vows to seek the truth behind the sabotage of the train and who killed Sam and all those onboard, but it would be three or four years before the truth emerges and the full story told. In the meantime the initially impressive Earth-2 title had been all but strangled and character development rendered very fascile indeed. Alan's story as with those of the rest of the cast ceased to carry any resonance or interest by the final days of the title..
Quote:For obvious reasons heroic legacies and immediate children were rendered redundant in this reimaging, but a character called Obsidian did appear in the chaotic mid-point of 'Earth-2' who was clearly based on the original but not of any relation at all to the Scott family. James Robinson before he departed the title unexpectedly did suggest the idea that his ideas for Jade and Obsidian might involve a far future team of heroes in the mold of the Legion of Super-Heroes, presumably a reworking of Roy Thomas' Infinity Inc concept.
At this point, with the Justice Society in literal limbo and likely of no relation to the team we knew before the 2011 ended it as a concern, it is hard to imagine us ever seeing Obsidian and Jade in the form we knew them. Much will depend on how this new Alan Scott is presented and whether his sexuality will carry over the Earth-2 character traits or revert to the traditional version of the character.
Remind me again why DC can't just bring back the non new-52 versions? Isn't pre-new 52 Wally back?
Can't they just bring back everybody now?
