I'm of two minds on this. On the one hand, I always found it odd that a guy who never liked super heroes (he supposedly made comments saying as much when he was at Vertigo) would be put in charge of an entire super hero line. I mean... what did they think was going to happen?
On the other hand, how much control does an EiC really have these days?... especially since Marvel was bought out by Disney? Was Alonso really calling the shots or was he just following the directives of his bosses? Is he just the fall guy for someone else's poor decisions? If that's the case, then Cebulski probably won't be able to make too many changes to the line.
Disney really had nothing to do with the comics division. That was Perlmutter, Buckley, and Alonso & his boys club of PC Dudebuds.
If anything, I would be more keen to believe that after being pushed out of Marvel Studios after the AoU fiasco, I'd say they went out of their way to steer the flagship characters into the rocks.
