Been reading a little of his online antics.
He is very antagonistic to fans/consumers that don't agree with him on everything, basically calling them Nazi's and representing himself as a paragon of virtue and values and painting everyone else as scum.
Is this an act? Or are we headed for more dark times?

I don´t think Slott will be in the title for long. Excluding The Amazing Spider-Man, he never stays on a title for much longer than, more or less, three years. And considering we are in 2018, my guess is that he will write Tony only until 2020, when he will replace him with Arno Stark, bring Tony back and leave the title in 2021. I believe that this will happen, because in addition to the date being very tempting to use the original Arno, Slott himself wrote the story with the most recent reference to Iron Man 2020 in The Amazing Spider-Man # 683. So this is a character that has been circulating inside his head for some time.
And the stories of the inventor, industrialist, and philanthropist version of Peter Parker that Slott wrote, to me seemed more like ideas he had for Iron Man and reworked for the Spider-Man universe. And those were good stories that even had cool appearances from the Ghost and Tony himself. Speaking of the Ghost, Slott knows how to write villains very well and this is always critical to good stories.
And if Slott ends up getting late in his writing as happened a few times in The Amazing Spider-Man, who knows if Christos Gage might show up to help out in some plots and write dialogues? That would be great, because Gage is a true Iron Man fan and knows how to write the character very well.
