There was an article (sorry, can't find it) saying WB had done so well this year that expectations/requirements for the pay out on JL is heavily reduced. So less than a billion won't really tarnish the franchise now as much as it would if they weren't having such a good year.

That may well be the case. Just not a good look given this should be a profitable movie for them. It is their Avengers movie so to speak and what they should have been working towards. So it has to sting.

Only having one movie that was liked and brought in more money than expected is not the right way to do this sort of thing.

I do think it underscores the problems of tent poles. Most studios are very reliant on a few big budget movies. If they go well than they are ok, if not than they are in trouble. You are not saying that but I am into a second rant ;\-\) .

I am surprised Wonder did as well as it did. Not that it looked bad or anything but it was just a general feel good movie. Maybe that is what people wanted.
