But still, would Frank want an heir to keep the war going? he knows that once he's dead there will still be guilty people in need of a bullet to the brain which would mean that someone has to carry on.

I dont think for one minute that Frank would want an heir. He may be able to accept a successor like Cole-Alves - someone with similar skills, motivations and origins to himself, and equally as little to lose - but I think the idea of taking a child into the role would be abhorrant to him.

As to the current Thunderbolts series, I suspect it will end in 12 issues if it doesn't pick up, but Frank just isn't a team player and yet at the same time he has been so damaged over the years by putrid writing (Frankencastle!!) that he can't seem to sustain a solo series. Plus we have the fact that the Avengers have now decided that enough is enough regarding Frank Castle. If Frank again rampages in the city, the Avengers will have to stop him.

Its not just stupid ideas like Frankencastle. The Rucka stuff for example was largely considered to be excellent by critics, but commercially it just didnt sell. So whats the problem? Whats the solution?

The truth of the matter is that the Punisher hasnt been a mainstream success since the late 1980's and there have been alot of false dawns a long time before Frankencastle was even conceived.

I will say this though, despite THOR initially dismissing Punisher as a mere mortal when Spidey called the Avengers together I do like how THOR studied all data on Frank and that little chat he had with Frank pretty much hit the nail on the head. If anyone knows about "warrior madness" it is THOR.

That was one of the excellent things about Ruckas run - it effectively showcased that Castle is a master psychologist and showed that he didnt need superpowers in order to compete with the big boys. Sadly people just didnt buy it, so I expect that Marvel will try again with a new angle which they think will sell. I just hope to god that its not another Frankencastle...
