Quote:I never read this storyline, but I know that people hated it. I'm pretty sure that it was part of that whole Over The Edge crossover/event that Marvel had in the 90s. But Frank actually died for good. He was sent to the electric chair. What exactly was the storyline behind that? Didn't he also kill Nick Fury as well (Who obviously got better.)? This all sounds really weird. I also want to read the Countdown storyline, because I know that Bullseye and Frank had a few encounters then. How did that go down? Did Bullseye kill anyone during that arc? I read that he killed someone who was running around as the Punisher at the time. Thanks.
Frank was sent to the chair, but it was a fake-out. The chair was designed to only incapacitate him so that he could be transferred to SHIELD where he was worked upo n by a rogue agent codenamed 'spook', who brainwashed Frank into believeing that Nick Fury had been responsible for the death of his family. This lead to Frank killing Nick Fury during the 'Over the Edge' storyline - although that Fury was later revealed to be an LMD.
Frank was next seen in Heroes for Hire living destitute. It was later referred to in retrospect during the terrible 'Punisher as Angel of Death' (AKA 'Zombisher') mini-series that Frank had killed himself during this period (aided by demons).
Countdown is a terrific storyline in my opinion and was essentially a continuation of the 'Pariah' and 'Suicide Run' storylines that occurred accross the three Punisher titles of the 80's/early 90's that showed a slow decline into insanity for Castle. It has Frank being turned upon by his closest friends, being trapped in a bunker mocked out like his family home, being replaced by a young pretender, and escaping and going bat-shit crazy. Its a great story.
