Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I picked up the new Heroes for Hire series today and was not pleased at all.

While I liked the idea of Misty Knight being a handler for random Marvel "Heroes", and I enjoyed reading the interactions and how well the whole story was written, and the fact that an introductory mission could actually be completed in the first issue of a series, that's where it all ends for me.

Not giving the full details of my problem with this series, since I don't feel like saving everyone 4 dollars tonight, but I will say this: turns out Misty has a mysterious associate feeding her information for her new setup, and in a move that makes me seriously doubt whether I'll buy issue 2, Marvel decides to reveal who it is and how that person is connected to Misty's new setup. They really should have waited a few months to ruin this book by revealing this secret.

Too bad Marvel wasted what I thought was a good story idea. I highly doubt this series will make it into double digit issues.

That is one SEXY tag line (that hopefully won't get tired)!

First of all the last page SHOCKER throws all my page by page reactions up in the air! But since they were jotted down, might as well post 'em with your thread that was already started...

HEROES FOR HIRE #1

Okay, good cover 'cuz its got the Heroes to grab ya but terrible cover 'cuz
-2 of 'em don't even appear
-MK throws crescents not stars
-$$$$$ logo: is not even the hiring commodity, it's favors
-$3.99 \:\(

The story itself is plays out like a standard street-level superhero team up to disrupt a drug trafficking operation. It's the art an elements that offer the title the potential to be a series contender. Not clear on what the format plans are at this typing. Enjoyed the art. All in all a good general issue but better potential than premiere.

Misty Knight is now making out like a poorman's DC's Babs Gordon doing Oracle!

Misty Knight does not have THAT many friends, does she? ;\) Besides how many will she keep if she keeps asking them to do vigilante justice on her say so?

Misty Knight should not be able to easily contact GR or Punisher.

Misty must have made arrangements previously for this type of operations (in spite of the last page SHOCKER) for Sam to simply accept the package, the job, and the voice. That's more backstory clutter to be told later unfortunately. Still waiting for all the recruitment backstory for the Secret Avengers!

The mystery allegience of Paladin to grab ya for the next ish. Guess he was satisfied with the hiding spot for The Odin Spear.

Widow, IDEALLY, would work in this type of title if she isn't on THE national superteam at the same time. Also, her highway heroics are just a little too unbelievable even by superhero standards. How did she survive that explosion? THe unclarity ruined it just like her recent thruway acrobatics in her own title.

Atlanteans have a drug named HOOK thats even worse on land. Kinda interesting but why she tied up in this crime as a premiere - and given the shocking ending?

MK fight was more easy to follow than the transport tussle. OTTOMH this was the first CLEAR use of bulletproof armor, right?

Lets see how far Elektra is planning on going and thus how far Misty is really willing to let her go - in this Heroic day and Age. Waterman is a neat alias but whats up with an Atlantean first AND last name like that?

Those 2 moles on Misty's cheeks make her look UGLY in her first impression for the reader

PHANTOM prenancy?! Phantom???!! No playmate for Dani?!! \:\( Seriously though, thought the side by side pregnancies was too suddenly pat anyways. However, still very curious about this. [Still have to read Blood on the Streets for the full SL wrapup.]

And then of course there is the fooour page epilogue to deliver one helluva a last page SHOCKER!
