It seems they also think that Marv is the most likely "internet breaking" icon to return in Legacy

Hmmm, they might be a bit overenthusiastic about the impact.

I have nothing against Mar-Vell. He is a good character but he has always been in the shadow of the much more famous Fawcett Captain Marvel.

Actually, Stan Lee only created the Marvel character to prevent other publishers from keeping the rights to the name for themselves.

I've attached the 1976 Marvel Calendar image that I think expresses non-verbally what Mar-Vell means in the minds of many Bronze Age fans.

Back in the day, "Cosmic Marvel" was pretty much the Surfer, Warlock, and Mar-Vell. Many fans of "Cosmic Marvel" back then, for example myself, would have loved to be able to buy a comic that featured the three icons as some sort of team. When we think of one of these icons we immediately think of the other two.

So yes - I'd like to see Mar-Vell return. Except I wouldn't. Because I know the Marvel writers of today would never in a million years do him any sort of justice. I say this partly because the Annihilation writers (at least the ones who come to mind) are working for DC nowadays. But also, Mar-Vell is a character who genuinely evolved and who should have continued evolving post-Starlin but never did. He was actively pursuing wisdom. The Bronze Age was perhaps unique in that regard. Pursuing wisdom was a frequent Bronze Age theme. But I guess it didn't sell comics because it didn't persist as a theme in later decades except for the occasional one-off which probably didn't sell.

Mar-Vell could still pursue wisdom. Back when THANOS was returned to life in Silver Surfer, he was in Death's realm talking to one of the dead about how being alive, then dead then alive again has opened his mind and bestowed some extra wisdom upon him.

imagine how Marv would be with his cosmic awareness working while he was in the hereafter, the secrets he could have learned and the enlightenment he may have achieved, then he returns to life and endeavors to share that enlightenment, when he isn't saving the cosmos from threats like Thanos.

Also..should Mar-vell return, that would be a cause for concern for Thanos. IT was Thanos that was sent to help Marv pass on, and Thanos has respect for Marv and knows that Marv and Warlock are the two biggest threats to any of his plans.

I would love to see an Adam Warlock, Silver Surfer, Mar-Vell team up.

Warlock and Marv were part of the team against THANOS when Warlock turned him to stone.

Surfer briefly meets what could have been Marv's ghost when he was in a dimension of Death. I suspect that was Marv's ghost because when Surfer bade him farewell he told him he wished he knew Marv during his lifetime. After Surfer left Marv said "perhaps in another"

Surfer has teamed with Warlock.

But the three to my knowledge have never teamed up.
