Quote:I hate him for tons of reasons.
Quote:1. He never ages...My dad was 7 when he was introduced.
I get that. I wish he could age. I'd like him better if he was a teen-ager.
Quote:2. He's designed to be saccharine sweet
I think he's actually designed to not be a problem for his parents. Imagine if he were designed otherwise. We'd have to endure stories about Reed and Sue debating disciplinary tactics.
Quote:3. His powers let him do anything
Or nothing, which is more often the case. He's definitely boring. No doubt about it. But that's mainly because he's really just a plot device. He exists so he can be babysat or so his parents can fret about him when the Baxter Building is under attack. In what may well be the best FF story line of all time, he was in a coma - hence, once again, just a plot device. (Gerry Conway and Rich Buckler get the credit for the truly groundbreaking Reed/Sue divorce story.)
Quote:4. He reminds me of those creepy village of the damned kids.
Uh - I got nothin'.
Quote:5. The children stifle the Fantastic Four and the kind of stories you can do with Reed and Sue. And worse he stifles Johnny and Ben...their romances always sour because the Fantastic Four can't deal with Johnny or Ben settling down.
I honestly don't think Franklin stifles anything. He's designed not to. Also, he had a nanny for a while, who became one of the coolest supporting characters of all time (Agatha Harkness).
Quote:6. Reed and Sue use Ben as their personal nanny. I get sick of Franklin/Ben stories. Maybe if we wasn't all soft he could beat more people.
I agree that Franklin should always have a nanny - who should always turn out to be more than she originally seems. It's one of his best roles as a plot device. He provides a reason for the FF to let strangers live with them.
Quote:Yes Valeria is awful. I think she's MEANT to be. I find Franklin awful because we're supposed to love him...and I totally don't.
I don't either. Love him, I mean. I did kind of like him as a guest star in the Power Pack comics.
