Quote:For me, what people fail to realize is that villains' roads to villainy aren't the interesting stories. The story of how Vader became Vader is inherently not interesting. This is the main reason the Prequels sucked.
I agree the road to villainy is uninteresting. But that's not what I had in mind. Doom as a boy was already a villain. So was Thanos, I'm sure, as well as Kang and Apocalypse. I'm not interested in the early years of the villain because of a road to villainy story. I'm interested in that time period because the villain hasn't met the hero yet. Doom hadn't met Richards. Thanos hadn't met Captain Marvel or Warlock. Kang hadn't met the Avengers. Apocalypse hadn't met the X-Men. Therefore those heroes would not be in the story. Which is the only way we get a villain solo story. If the heroes are in the story, then it's no longer a villain solo story.
I would want the villain to be a villain from the opening scene and remain a villain to the closing scene.
As for the Star Wars Prequels - they sucked for too many reasons to get into here.
Quote:That said, I wouldn't mind seeing a Cold War Nazi hunt starring Our Lord Magneto. I don't consider him a villain though.
Nowadays he isn't clearly a villain but in the early days he was just plain nasty.
Actually, a Magneto solo story sounds workable. But I want him bad, pure black, not gray.
I agree with the Reverend about Doom, also. I want him pure black, not gray. I don't want an antihero. I want a villain. Otherwise I want a different character, an actual antihero character.
In fact that puts me in mind of another possible discussion thread.
