The story of how Vader became Vader is inherently not interesting. This is the main reason the Prequels sucked.

I'm not sure that's true. I'm not sure it was a bad idea, it was just done badly. Lucas made Anakin be a super-nice kid who seems to be manipulated, rather easily, into doing evil. It makes him seem like a dolt. It's like Rev was saying about Doom, he should have been an evil little cuss from the start.

I think Lucas's original idea was that the Force drove Anakin to evil. Anakin accessed the Force with dark emotions and the Force sucked him all the way down into utter darkness. That could have worked if it was clearly presented that way but it wasn't. We can read between the lines and deduce it, but we shouldn't have to read between the lines when it comes to the whole point of the trilogy.

Okay, there was always some good in him, but he should have been sitting on that fence. But the prequels sucked because they didn't find a good balance between the cartoon slapstick of Jar Jar/droids and the dramatic tension of a Jedi going dark. They thought out the Palpatine arc, making him the MVP of the prequels, to the expense of everyone else. Mostly they tried to be too light and fluffy to carry the epic they were trying to tell, one that we knew would end in defeat for the heroes. You can't make a fun poppy trilogy with that conclusion.

I agree. Actually, I don't think this should have been a trilogy. A story about the Force sucking Anakin into evil would best be told in a single film.
