Ok I'm trying to read some of the Johnny Blaze Ghost Rider appearances as well as the Son of Satan stuff.

I'm trying to make sense of who Marvel's Satan is and not quite getting it.

Is the Satan in Marvel Spotlight #5-11 and the Johnny Blaze Ghost Rider series not the same Satan that Hellstorm deals with in Marvel Spotlight #12-24 and Son of Satan #1-8?

Marvel's Wikia page implies they're different characters. (and inconsistent on who gets credit for what)
http://marvel.wikia.com/wiki/Marduk_Kurios_(Earth-616)
http://marvel.wikia.com/wiki/Lucifer_(Earth-616)
http://marvel.wikia.com/wiki/Mephisto_(Earth-616)

But the one who menaced Daimon and the one who turned Johnny Blaze into Ghost Rider can't be different characters right...because Ghost Rider #2-3 crossed over with Hellstorm's appearance in Marvel Spotlight #12 and were written by Gary Friedrich.

So who was the Satan that appeared in the Marvel Spotlight, Son of Satan and early Ghost Rider appearances?

Good luck. I have jumped into that mess a few times. They do appear to be different beings in the comics. That is the flat out truth of it.

At some point, and I forget where but will look, those appearance were largely shifted to Mephisto. At least for GR. Hellstorm I am not as informed on but am working on reading the issues.

This was made more confusing in the Way Ghost Rider run when it backtracked and we had a Satan/Lucifer again. What Satan is, hard to say. We know that there is a throne to him that has shown up that the Hell Lords fight over, but that is about it.

It is just not very clear. It more highlights the thoughts of multiple different writers working with the same thing.

If memory serves, and who is to say it is, many of the early showings have been explained as various Hell Lords at different points in time. In some issues what was Satan is still called the devil but Mephisto is there.

It is all very confusing. And to be fair, Ghost Rider himself is probably one of the more confusing characters. Given different volumes usually have different hosts and different SoV and other factors on top of that. Not saying they are not enjoyable but tying it all together is rough.
