So who was the Satan that appeared in the Marvel Spotlight, Son of Satan and early Ghost Rider appearances?

For lack of a better answer, I will say Mephisto.

He was, without a doubt, involved in the lives of Zarathos, Johnny Blaze & Centurious.

Still, Satan being Marduk or Mephisto is a retcon.

In his first appearances, Satan was a new character, different from Mephisto. When Satan appeared in the Ghost-Rider, Defenders & Son of Satan series during the Bronze Age, he was supposed to be the same character.

It was revealed later that Satan was an alias shared by multiple Hell-Lords.

Marduk being one of the Hell-Lords and the father of Daimon is an idea from the Hellstorm series. It is another retcon.

It is very hard to track what could be the first appearance of Lucifer.
I remember him appearing in a Daredevil issue pencilled by John Romita Jr. In the same issue, Mephisto appeared as a separate character but this version of Lucifer was very different from the current portrayal.

A simple explanation would be that they all are avatars of the same abstract entity ("we are legion").
