lambert was asked to be in the series, but he wanted to work on movies be they Highlander or otherwise.
They could only afford him for a few days for filming the pilot episode.
Adrian Paul suggested that since fans were going to compare him to Lambert that it should be as a different Macleod and not as an imitation Connor, to which I agree.
When the series started, they didn't state right away if it was before or after Connor vs Kurgan. It was left open, and there was a season 1 ep where Duncan told Joan Jett's immortal character that his katana was given to him by Connor.....however the Season 3 premier episode changes that and gives a better origin of the sword. The explanation for Season 1 was that Duncan lied as the writers didn't know they would get another season at the time.
Season 2's first episode is where we learn it is after the first movie but the movie is retconned so that Connor does kill Kurgan but it wasn't the final battle.
Here is the youtube link to that episode: jump ahead to 18:20 and let it play. Joe gives the data on Kurgan and comments how Connor did everyone a favor taking down the Kurgan.
