Thank you VERY much, Ryan. I really appreciate your insights in the matter. \:\)

Not much else to add to RAB's excellent breakdown, but according to what Dan Jurgens has said in interviews it was Dan Didio who approached him to do the (rather wonderful) 'Lois & Clark' series, and this does support the idea it was the success of Jurgens' work on the Convergence tie-in issues that co-aligned with a general feeling among management that the NEW-52 directive had run its course. Remarkably Dan Jurgens also let slip that he knew that Jon Kent would be the new Superboy and that Lois and Clark would be move to being center-stage in the DC Universe before he had even started work on that series!!

There is nothing in Convergence itself as a series to suggest something was always planned, if anything Convergence was a muddled attempt to find some inspiration on where and how to take the DCU forward with a flagging NEW-52 now having lost all energy. But it was Jurgens' two tie-in issues bringing back the older Superman which clearly struck a chord in Dan Didio, who decided to have Superman and Lois sidestep the climax of that event to arrive on the main DCU earth, and from there take over where the increasingly troubled NEW-52 Superman left off...
