I love New Super-Man precisely because I find it exciting and I can't wait for the next issue to come out... and I find the plotting/the story ideas Gene Leun Yang tells to be intelligent.

He's dissecting notions of democracy and American Pop Culture; using Eastern Mythology as building blocks of character growth; doing his notion of Chaos and Order (in one of the best depictions since Kirby's New Gods)... it's the kind of storytelling i'd kill to see in the main Superman books.

Literally, just read the latest issue, #18, and was grinning ear-to-ear as I turned to the last page.

Reading that book makes me feel like a kid again, picking up Action Comics, Superman, Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes, the New Adventures of Superboy... ranging from writers as the like of Cary Bates, John Byrne, Roger Stern and more back in the 80's and 90's.

I'm going to give New Superman another chance, based on what you're saying here. I wasn't enthused by the first couple of issues, but if it's what you say it is, I'm missing out. I'll let you know.

I really find it enjoyable.

It's not perfect (sometimes things are a little too convenient and transitions aren't done as well as they could be) and once Victor Bogdonovic got taken off as regular artist, the art isn't always consistently great (some issues are better than others), but I really like it overall.

I find Gene Leun Yang's writing style fun, character driven and remixes old continuity with eastern mythology really well. That and Kenan Kong's transition from a punk who shouldn't be wearing a Superman costume into being worthy of it is a great ride, IMO.
