In light of the Bendis discussion below, whom would you choose to write Superman? To be frank, I can't think of anyone current. I wouldn't mind seeing Elliot S! Maggin have a go at a story, or Alex Ross, but those lads have made their mark on the character, and I think a fresh hand is called for to some extent. Still, I cannot think of anyone from the present crop of writers that I would put to write Superman.

As much as I'd love a new Superman story from Maggin or Cary Bates or Ordway or Louise Simonson or Roger Stern or Jeph Loeb or ... (ad nauseum), I think what the character needs is someone else. Someone who hasn't written the character before (or at least not as a regular writer). As much as I love all those folks and what they did for the character, you have to move on at some point. (And that doesn't mean toss out what the character stands for or defy the nature of the character.) It doesn't even have to be a "name." Maggin didn't have a long résume´ when he started writing Superman, either.

I say as much in my post. Do you have anyone in mind, or should DC just allow for lads to submit via a "Marvel Try-Out" book?
