Reply Subj: If there HAS to be a Superwoman in DCComics (and across media), who do you want it to permanently be?

Not counting the Earth-3/Qward/Crime Syndicate one.

Kristin Wells??

I don't mind Lana. As classically, she would be turned into Insect Woman anyway.

Lois or Lucy, as Superwoman permanently, disrupts Superman and Solo Lois stories.

Kristin is just too obscure and limited.

That's a tough question, because the way you pose the question, I would assume the character becomes a permanent fixture in the mainline DCU.

With that said, I've always liked the idea behind the Pre-C Superwoman, of a historian of the future who comes back to find out that she's the Superwoman of legend, but never liked the execution of the idea.

I've always felt Maggin's writing in general was too much like fan-fiction, but Kristen Well's exploits as Superwoman definitely made her come off as a Mary Sue character. Most notably, that he kept referring her to the greatest heroine of the 20th Century, which always pissed me off (greater than Wonder Woman? Really?!).

So there's a part of me who would like to keep the concept, because I think it could be executed better, than it was. But if the character is meant to be a permanent mainstay with no 'fixed' future, then I'd say no to Kristen, because her situation could become real confusing real quick with poor writers at the helm... unless you had her go the Booster Gold route, ditching the Historian aspect and making it so she comes to the past to become a hero. This is probably my third choice.

I wouldn't mind seeing a re-worked Luma Lynai (this time NOT looking like an exact duplicate of Kara Zor-El), still a Starylian, who comes to Earth and unlike Superman has her powers no matter the environment. Still work the romance angle with Superman, like it was in Pre-Crisis, could be a lot of fun. This is probably my first choice.

Or I'd go like what Knight suggested, having her be a completely new character. Keep the mask and have it be a mystery as to who 'Superwoman' really is. Like the Hobgoblin mystery in the Spider-Man books of the 80's.

Those would be my preferences.
