Well if Asano made anyone upset, this choice is going to drive some people up walls.
I don't know if I'm totally sold on it, even given one undeniable fact: the man is an amazing actor. See his work as one of the most deservedly beloved characters on the "best television show ever made," The Wire.
[FYI he's British - which makes a lot of his work, especially on The Wire, even more impressive. You'd never, ever guess that the man wasn't a Baltimore native through and through.]

My initial feelings were that of concern for this choice. I'd like this movie to stay true to the comic. But who knows, maybe Branagh will pull it off and really make this be a big plus for the movie.
The one thing we all have to remember, if this movie is to be successful, it has to reach more than us Thor fans. It has to reach the main stream general audience.....people who never heard of Asgard or Heimdall....or know any thing about the viking gods (like we do). So they aren't going to care or know if Heimdall should be black, white, red, blue....or whatever. We just need Branagh to make one heck of a great swashbuckling, movie that can bring in more than just us, it has to get the same people Ironman got.....tap that same audience. No one outside of the Ironman fans and us comic fans knew much about him until that movie....but it got the general audience and guess what....with the butler being a computer instead of a man!! Changes can work!
